SPALLING SUPPLIER SPECIFICATIONS

SIKA

  • Initial stripping of spalling– Chisel out loose and friable material from around the affected spalled areas, by means of chisel to at least 10mm around the re-bar.
  • Cleaning re-enforced steel– Clean all areas by mechanically brushing or power grinding to remove any loose rust from the substrata.
  • Cleaning concrete – Clean all affected areas by soft brush, to remove all surface contaminants.
  • Steel corrosion – Prime all steel areas with Sika-Top 110 Armatec, anti-corrosive coating at 1.5 metres per litre if the corrosion is severe.
  • Mortar wetting – Dampen the entire concrete surface, prior to priming.
  • Priming –Mortar – Apply Sika’s Monotop 615HB, cementitious, polymer modified repair. 
  • Alternative cementitious & steel primer – Apply Sika Monotop 610 to all surfaces. 
  • Thin application – Apply Sika Monotop 612, if the required applications are between the range of 5-30mm.
  • Thick application – Apply Sika Monotop 615, if the required applications are between the range of 5-70mm.
  • Skim – Apply Monotop 620 as a skim applied product, if the surface requires a smooth finish.
  • Shuttering – Mix Sika grout 212 where shuttering can be used and pour in as a liquid.

PRO-STRUCT

PREPARATION:

  • All defective areas and areas which have degraded due to carbonation and chloride ingress or areas of insufficient concrete cover will be clearly marked out by the client’s representative
  • After removal of defective concrete, ensure that the reinforcing bars are free of frost, rust, dirt, grease, oil, curing compound, paints, impregnations or any other foreign matter likely to affect the bond or performance of the repair material
  • Where reinforcing bars have to be replaced, they must be secured to meet the client’s requirements.

PRIMING:

  • The concrete needs to be pre-soaked with clean potable water, leaving the concrete saturated but free of standing water.

MIXING:

  • Mix Pro-Struct 528VO-MCI with clean potable water using a mechanical mortar type mixer. Do not exceed recommended amount of mixing water stated on the package or technical data sheet.

APPLICATION:
Work the product into the concrete surface. Apply with a trowel, taking care not to leave air pockets. Apply from bottom of the cavity from one side to the other. When embedding reinforcement, ensure a minimum of 10mm above the reinforcing bar. Should multiple layers be required, roughen and pre-soak surface between layers.

Delaminating plaster:
Plaster of which the adhesion is suspect, must be removed down to sound brickwork, and re-plastered. Mortar that is soft and friable must be scraped out between the bricks and re-applied with a 1:3 cement/sand mortar. Coating Worx has allow for up to 10m² any additional plaster work will be charge on an ad hoc basis once brought to the attention of the trustees.

  • Mortar wetting – Dampen the entire concrete surface, prior to priming
  • Priming – Mortar (Including Anti-corrosion primer) – Anti corrosion primers are built into the products
  • Mortar application – Durarep FR, as per the required application
  • Skim – Apply Durarep FR AS a skim applied product, if the surface requires a smooth finish.
  • Shuttering – Mix Durarep FMC, where shuttering can be used and pour in as a liquid.

NB: Please note these specifications are to be used as a guideline only. Once the job has been awarded the chosen paint manufacturer may be asked to provide a detailed specification.

 

Damp areas should be repaired by a specialist, prior to painting. Areas such as free standing walls, staircases and corridors, don’t usually have DPC (Damp proof course), and these areas should be treated as maintenance items.
